Davy Rogers
Davy Rogers lives in South Galway and is a multi instrumentalist who has been playing Irish traditional music for over 40 years. His main instruments are guitar, dobro, bouzouki, banjo, whistles and mandolin. Davy has played in numerous bands in Galway, Clare and Mayo. He is the author of the website “Davy Rogers’ Traditional Irish Guitar TABs and MIDIs” (launched in April 2001) (www.davyrogers.com) an online tablature and MIDI resource for fingerstyle guitarists. He has recorded 2 albums, one with English fiddler Vicki Mogridge and Johnny Curtis (bodhrán), and another with accordionist and singer Joe Carey from Belmullet, Co. Mayo.
For many years he played guitar with former All-Ireland accordion champion Oliver Diviney, and has toured Europe extensively both as a band member and as a solo performer. Davy has been composing tunes in the traditional style since the late 1980s and has had several of his guitar arrangements published in Mel Bay’s anthology of the music of O’Carolan arranged for solo guitar. Lately, Davy devotes his time to teaching, arranging, composing and playing in local sessions.
